Core of Creative: Shaping the Future of Digital Education for Creatives

With the rise of various 2D and 3D digital work, tutorial class platforms are becoming increasingly popular for students, hobbyists, and even professionals alike. It has become a fast-growing segment in South Korea within the broader digital education and creative content landscape, driven by increasing demand from aspiring artists, animators, game developers, and professionals transitioning into digital content creation.

However, in the vast sea of YouTube tutorials, educational platforms, and other learning resources, how does one ensure that they are getting the best lessons to become a better creator? Sometimes it is not only about how many times one practices, but how one practices. Quality is just as important as quantity, and that is where Core of Creative comes in to help.

Brief History of South Korea’s 3D Industry

In the late 90s, South Korea's graphic industry became a powerhouse in online games, with titles like Lineage and MapleStory online making headlines and using 3D graphics. Afterwards, K-pop and K-drama grew globally, pushing 3D demand in music videos, films, and ads since the 2010s. Now, South Korea’s 3D motion graphic industry is in full upward swing, fueled by rapid adoption in entertainment, commercial, industrial, and different fields.

Introduction to Core of Creative and Woot Creative

Core of Creative (COC) is an educational platform created by creators Goh Sungwoo and Park Sungwoo, both who have been actively working in the industry for many years. They are not only co-owners, but are also close friends who even share the same first name. COC prides itself in having numerous, high-quality creative programs from the basics of After Effects to Cinema4D simulations. Each program is specialized and categorized to meet the needs of students, whether they are a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced. They are also held by experienced designers who are actively working in the field. These industry-leading instructors are not only skilled practitioners, but are also excellent communicators.

The two creators who established COC were classmates from the same university and joined together in 2016 to first establish a branding and motion graphic company called Woot Creative. The design studio’s expertise includes 3D motion graphics, branding, and story-driven content. They work with top-tier tech and consumer companies such Samsung, Dell, LG, Naver, and more.

The Need for Quality Education for Creatives

Since college, our vision has been to start an education platform. We began preparing in earnest during the COVID-19 pandemic and established the company in 2024.” Sungwoo Park explained the background of the platform.

We wanted to create something that would address the shortcomings of existing education platforms. While working in the motion graphics industry, I felt the need for education for my junior colleagues and fellow designers, and we established COC to fulfill that need.”

What sets COC apart from other platforms is that it is created directly by creators who have worked in the field for many years. This ensures that students will be provided with the best learning experiences, as their goal is to focus on maintaining the quality of their lectures. From the very beginning of the lecture planning stage, COC already ensures quality control by external lecturers who are industry veterans.

COC also provides teaser videos to allow previews of lectures before enrollment, and courses are released with subtitles simultaneously for better understanding for students. Consistent quality is maintained throughout all the programs by guiding instructors on effective teaching methods and presentation, ensuring each course meets the highest standards.

How Render Farms are Used to Meet Tight Deadlines

When Woot Creative is catching a deadline, render farms such as GarageFarm.NET play a significant role in the production process.

Rendering tasks that would typically take hours or even days on a local machine can be significantly sped up with the use of a render farm. Platforms like GarageFarm.NET leverage cloud-based servers to offload the demanding rendering process, enabling faster speeds by distributing the workload across multiple machines. Woot Creative found this particularly beneficial for their projects that required a quicker turnaround.

Additionally, GarageFarm.NET offers a Korean support team that efficiently addresses issues and provides expert recommendations to optimize the rendering process. This tool can also easily be used by students of COC for their projects.

Wrapping Up: The Future of Core of Creative and Digital Education

Although Core of Creative is currently going towards significant success and recruiting a great number of excellent instructors, they do not plan on just stopping there. COC is making further plans to create educational content that is differentiated from existing platforms, and to launch modeling, rendering, illustrator, and VFX classes, specializing as much as possible.

At the moment, classes for popular free 3D software such as Blender and Redshift are being produced, especially taking into consideration the strengths of each tool such as Blender’s suitability for characters and Cinema4D’s flexibility and popularity among users in Korea. COC also offers lectures in English, and plans to increase the number of such lectures in the future. Offline seminars for students are also in the works.

In short, COC is positioning itself as a key player in the future of creative learning. Whether you're looking to refine your 3D skills or explore new creative fields, COC is an invaluable resource for mastering the tools and techniques that shape the future of digital content creation.
